Buying a car is probably one of the biggest investments many people will go through and so it’s only natural that they look for something that can be part of their personality.

Everything from a brand new stereo system to personalized license Plate Holders, cars can be customized pretty much anyway someone wants them.  What are some of the best and easiest ways to customize a car?

Car customizationBefore you even think about putting a lot of work and effort into your car to make it just how you want it, you should probably make sure the innards work as well as they should.  It’s important to get your car checked out and tuned up to make sure everything is functioning properly before you start going to various stores buying personalized items.

It would be pretty backhanded to spend a lot of money putting a bunch of custom work into a car only to have the brakes give out or the transmission blow a few weeks later.  Worse yet, if you’re on a tight budget you’ll be lamenting the money you put into that customization when it could have been put into fixing up your car.

Theme

Assuming now that your car is in tiptop shape and no work is needed to keep it running for a while, the first thing to consider when trying to customize it is what you’re trying to reflect with it.  Some people want something that shows off their personality while others want a particular theme such as underwater or all black.  It’s important to get a clear image in your head of what it is that you want out of your customizations.  Think of the project as a work of art – you’ll need to do the sketches before you can start doing the painting.

Your Car Customization Budget

Next you need to decide if you’re trying to go at it on a budget or if you’d rather just go all-out and go for broke on the customizations you want to put into your car.  Both options have their own pros and cons involved.

On one hand, car customization can get quite pricey if you really get into it.  Rims, new upholstery, a brand new stereo, and new lights are just a few examples of custom options that someone has when they’re redoing their car and those can all run up your bill quite quickly if you aren’t careful.  On the other hand however if you really want to do something that will show for years to come, assuming you’ll keep the car for that long, putting the money into quality items and customizations is probably the better bet.

Quality means you’ll spend less time and money replacing things later, which could end up saving you money in the long run even if does seem expensive at first.

Custom Paint Job

Also decide if you’re planning on painting your car.  This will impact in what order you decide to put the rest of the customizations and you don’t want to do something just to have more work for you later because you damaged the new paint.

There are quite a few things that can go into customizing a car to get it just how you want it, but you’ve got to make sure that the basics of your car is covered before you get into the details.  Making sure the car is in good shape and you’ve got a good plan in place are the biggest things that need to be addressed before you really start getting into the design aspect of it.  Once you’ve got those two things down, the rest will fall into place rather easily.
